Five adventurers answered Syndra Silvane’s call to find the source of the Death Curse and were sent by her magic to Port Nyanzaru. There they took a room, gathered rumors, bought a dinosaur and a canoe, collected a gambling debt from the gladiator Taban Veilthorn, who then joined them, and asked the Temple of Savras for guidance. Zitembe, the head of the temple, began a long ritual on their behalf, and his granddaughter Inete paid to travel with them.

Recap

The commission

The party meets Syndra Silvane and accepts her call to find the source of the Death Curse. Each of them came to answer it alone, and they decide to face it together. Shortly afterward Syndra teleports them to the Harbor Ward of Port Nyanzaru. The city meets them with brightly painted buildings and murals, the smell of spices and sea air, a musical, clicking language, and the noise of street performers and the working harbor.

Kaya’s House of Repose

On Syndra’s recommendation the party takes a shared room at Kaya’s House of Repose for two gold pieces a night. Syndra goes on to the villa of Wakanga O’tamu, where she means to stay for the rest of the adventure.

Vonara flirts with the bartender for information, and Vogal, feeling a kinship with the Half-Orcs in the house, strikes up a conversation with them. Between them they hear two rumors. The first is that five days by canoe up the Tiryki River a stone spire stands to the east, which the natives call Firefinger; “terror folk” nest there and will fight anyone they see. The second is that the city of Mezro was not destroyed in the Spellplague after all and that its ruins are an illusion. The teller heard a pale-skinned man whisper this to a dinosaur man with a big sword, who smelled of honeysuckle.

Shopping and a performance

Taenae buys a hadrosaurus from Ifan Talro’a. She has seen how the animal is treated and spends all of her gold on it, a hundred pieces. She names it Gooye and means to take it into the jungle as a pack animal. The party also buys insect repellent, a strong-smelling salve of rendered dinosaur fat and menga leaves that keeps off ordinary insects, two potions of healing, and a canoe, intending to go up either the Tiryki River or the Soshenstar River.

Afterward they explore more of the city and, inspired by the local Tabaxi minstrels, stop to put on a street performance together.

Taban Veilthorn

K’lahu, a Chultan thug and bookie at Executioner’s Run, hires the party to collect a gambling debt of five hundred gold from the gladiator Taban Veilthorn. They beat Taban into submission, and afterward he joins them, meaning to restore his honor by helping to end the Death Curse. K’lahu pays them the agreed tenth, fifty gold, when they return the full sum.

The Temple of Savras

The party goes to the Temple of Savras, god of wizards, divination, fate and truth, for guidance on the Death Curse. As they arrive they see the head of the temple, Zitembe, turning away some red-robed figures and refusing them service. Asked about them, Zitembe says little. He offers instead to help find the source of the Death Curse, which will take a ritual sixteen hours long.

While they are there Zitembe’s granddaughter, Inete, befriends the party. She offers a donation of a hundred gold to travel with them to the Aldani Basin to investigate the Red Wizards and the nightmare visions she has of a Snake Temple.

The day ends on the thirtieth of Mirtul, 1492 DR. The party goes back to Kaya’s House to rest until the ritual is finished.
