Deep within the Aldani Shrine, the party tried to send Adam, the soldiers and the wounded out, nearly drowned in the attempt and found the shrine sealed. They advanced into a flooding corridor where a disembodied voice posed a riddle and the water rose with every wrong guess. After fighting invisible water creatures they gave the answer, and the path forward opened.

The sealed shrine
The party is deep within the Aldani Shrine. They secured Lorsa Rygor, who is cursed or possessed, and destroyed the undead in the entrance hall. The Hungerer revealed himself as a necrotic projection and taunted the party before he vanished deeper into the shrine.
On the afternoon of the thirtieth of Kythorn, 1492 DR, the party attempts to send the accompanying soldiers and Adam, a guard, out of the shrine with the wounded. As they try to exit, the water pressure and the magical wards intensify violently, and the group nearly drowns in the attempt. The shrine is sealed. The only way out is through.
The Trial of Depths
The party advances into a narrow, moisture-slicked corridor adorned with faded murals of Ubtao. A disembodied voice challenges them: “I am given freely but cost something in return. I must be made to gain what you seek. What am I?”
The party struggles to find the answer. With every wrong guess the water rises and threatens to drown them.
Invisible water creatures, water weirds or stalkers, spawn from the rising tide and assault the party while unseen. A chaotic skirmish follows in the cramped, flooded space.
After dispatching the creatures, the party gives the correct answer: “Sacrifice.” The waters recede, and the path forward opens.
Aftermath
- The shrine was sealed, and the party could not leave by the way it had come.
- Lorsa Rygor’s condition was worsening. She was struggling against possession, and the cold air around her was intensifying.
- Adam was trapped with the party, and morale was low.
