The party returned to Port Nyanzaru from the Sunken Temple. At Critters, Creepers & Crawlers, which had become a triage center, they found Alice with a necrotic wound, taken while she investigated a figure called the Beggar King, and she and Taenae reconnected. Vogal reunited with Kaveth. The merchant prince Wakanga O’tamu summoned the party to his villa and showed them a coffin that held only the ash and the amulet of Syndra Silvane. The Death Curse had quickened and had also killed three priests of Savras and the gladiator Kragga. The party was left with the task of finding the Beggar King in the Old City.

Recap

The triage

It is the twenty-ninth of Flamerule, 1492 DR. The party has returned to Port Nyanzaru from the Sunken Temple, bearing new powers and the weight of their mentors’ ascension. They are triumphant yet exhausted. They possess a Bastion, but the city they have returned to feels different, and heavier.

The party visits Critters, Creepers & Crawlers, Alice’s shop. The chaotic pet shop is gone. It has been converted into a triage center. Tull’poa and Ko’Mara, two Tortle healers, are tending to wounded locals without magic.

Alice is bandaging a child. Her own arm is heavily splinted and glows with a necrotic wound. Taenae and Alice reconnect. Despite the earlier rejection, the bond remains strong.

Alice reveals that she was attacked in Malar’s Throat while investigating a figure known as the “Beggar King.” The entity was too fast to see, and Beau, the otter, saved her life. The Beggar King is peddling a “Cure-all” potion that Alice suspects is dangerous.

Dragon’s Blood

Vogal reunites with his partner, Kaveth, the proprietor of The Dead Fish. He drinks a potent draft of Dragon’s Blood liquor. The result is a night of intense, destructive and passionate intimacy.

The ash of Syndra

The party is summoned to the villa of the merchant prince Wakanga O’tamu. The enchanted gardens are dying, and the orchid petals drip black sap.

Wakanga stands before a blue-black coffin. He opens it to reveal only ash and the amulet of Syndra Silvane, who sent the party to Chult. Syndra crumbled to dust the day before. Her last words were “Tell them the Atropal laughs.”

Wakanga reveals that the Death Curse has accelerated. It is taking the strong. Three priests of Savras are dead, which strikes Inete hard. The gladiator Kragga, Vogal’s mentor and friend, is dead.

The mission

Wakanga believes that the Beggar King is connected to the Curse’s master, or is exploiting the chaos to feed the Atropal.

Wakanga asks the party to take care of it: to scour the Old City, find the Beggar King and stop the distribution of the “Cure-all.”

Aftermath
