Vogal and Vonara, separated from the main group, were joined by the sorcerer Fenro Silver. They refused to hand over Finethir Shinebright, a wizard trapped in the form of a dinosaur, to the enforcers of Master Noke. The enforcers were cut down, Noke died when his Wand of True Polymorph backfired, and the wand was destroyed in restoring Finethir’s true form.
Recap
The split
Vogal and Vonara find themselves separated from the main group, perhaps in the chaotic aftermath of the boat explosion. They are joined by Fenro Silver, a sorcerer with a penchant for fire magic. The place is Noke’s Keep.
The approach
A Ti-Khana deinonychus bursts onto the scene, chased by wolves. Vonara identifies the creature’s Yuan-ti origins: it is a magical mutation of a deinonychus, a carnivorous species of dinosaur. Using a scroll, the dinosaur introduces himself as Finethir Shinebright, a wizard trapped in beast form.
The standoff
Guz, a Half-Orc enforcer, arrives with wolves and a golem and demands that the “sheep” be returned to Master Noke. The party refuses, and a fight begins. Vogal and Fenro Silver engage the enforcers. Guz and his wolves are systematically cut down.
Master Noke
Master Noke appears, wielding the Wand of True Polymorph. Desperate to crush the party, he attempts to use the wand to transform himself into a wyvern. The wand backfires catastrophically. Instead of transforming, Noke’s body implodes under the arcane strain, and bloody chunks of the wizard fly across the cobblestones.
The enemies are defeated and Finethir Shinebright is saved. The Wand of True Polymorph is completely destroyed in restoring Finethir’s true form, and the party never holds it. The date is the eighth of Kythorn, 1492 DR.
