The gem was a prism.
Powers
The gem answered to three command words. The first made it shed bright light around its holder. The second sent a beam of brilliant light at one creature, which could be blinded by it for a time. The third made the gem flare in a blinding cone before it. The beam and the flare drew on a store of power in the gem, and when the store was spent the gem became an ordinary jewel.
History
The party took the gem from the Snake Temple on the fifth of Kythorn, 1492 DR, after it stopped the ritual of the Red Wizards there, together with the Staff of the Adder and the Cloak of Billowing.1 It needed no attunement, and the party never used it.
